Airport Transfer Cost Index 2026 at a glance

This comparison covers nine airports and one practical public transport option for each. Fares are in the operator’s currency. Most are adult singles; Munich’s €17.50 example is a day ticket, and Dubai’s fare depends on zones and card type.

It is a dated source snapshot, not a live quote. Amsterdam’s fare must be checked in the NS planner. Published amounts exclude your onward journey from the arrival station, ticket-media charges where applicable and any optional upgrades.

iFareRadar tip: compare the flight price and the airport transfer as one total. A cheaper ticket can lose its advantage when late-night taxi costs, airport supplements or a slower route are included.

Read the ticket label before comparing

A day ticket can cover later journeys; a one-way rail fare cannot. Zone pricing can make “from” prices misleading. For a group, compare the total public transport bill with a taxi quote for the exact destination, vehicle and luggage.

How to make a fair comparison

We record the route, published ticket type, fare and source. We removed the previous weighted ratings because they implied a precision the page could not substantiate.

Compare four things

  1. Total cash cost: adult fare × party size, plus required supplements and the final connection to your hotel.
  2. Door-to-door time: terminal walk, waiting, changes and hotel walk; the train time alone is incomplete.
  3. Arrival fit: use the actual landing date, terminal and expected exit time to check the final service.
  4. Usability: luggage, step-free access, mobility needs and ticket-validation rules.

Illustrative calculation: a €160 flight plus four €7 transfers costs €188. A €175 flight plus a €10 group transfer costs €185. These invented figures demonstrate the arithmetic; they are not airport quotes.

Best choice by traveler type

Use the route that fits your arrival time, group size and destination. A cheap airport ticket can still require another fare or an inconvenient change.

Solo traveller

Compare a single fare with any useful day ticket. Include the final hotel leg and payment-media cost.

Family or group

Check children’s fares and group tickets before multiplying adult prices. Get a vehicle quote that includes your luggage and destination.

Late arrival

Allow time for baggage and immigration, then check the final departure. Keep an alternative if the scheduled service is missed.

Sources and update policy

FareRadar Editorial Team reviewed the linked official operator and tourism sources on 2 October 2026. Published fare examples below are explicitly labelled. Where a price requires a route query, we link the planner instead of presenting an unverified amount.

Source and correction policy

Each table row links to its fare source. Amounts are a snapshot of the source checked, not a guarantee for your travel date. The NS route page did not expose an auditable fare, so Amsterdam uses a planner check.

Recheck before buying, particularly after tariff changes or when your terminal, destination or ticket type differs. If a source conflicts with this page, use the operator’s current quote. Report a correction to FareRadar with the airport, ticket type and source link.

Frequently asked questions about airport transfer costs

What is the Airport Transfer Cost Index?

The Airport Transfer Cost Index compares source-linked public transport fares and ticket types at nine airports. It helps you estimate arrival costs before booking; it does not assign a universal airport ranking.

No airport is best for every trip. Compare the exact route to your hotel, total cost for your group, arrival time, luggage and any required changes. This page does not award overall scores.

Sometimes. Compare a taxi quote for your exact destination and party with the total public transport fares, including onward connections. Confirm whether the taxi amount is fixed or metered and whether supplements apply.

A cheaper flight can become more expensive once airport transfer costs, taxi fares, late-night transport and extra travel time are included.

No. Choose the cheapest option only if it also fits your arrival time, luggage, hotel location and comfort level. A direct route can be worth paying more for.
